A new generation of engineered timber from the Green Triangle is set to take centre stage on national television, highlighting the region’s growing capability in advanced manufacturing. The GL24 blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus provided by ABP) glulam beam, produced by WTIBeam, will feature in the new Channel 9 series Epic Builds: The 90 Day Challenge, hosted by science communicator Adam Spencer. Premiering on 28 February on Channel 9 and 9Now, the docuseries follows Australian prefab and modular construction teams as they deliver complex, high-performance projects in just 90 days ,showcasing the speed, precision and innovation transforming the way Australia builds.

WTIBeam owner Edwina Vulcz appears in the series, sharing the story behind the development of the GL24 blue gum product, now the strongest engineered timber beam available in the domestic market. Designed for commercial, residential and prefabricated applications, the product is the result of federally and Victorian Government-funded research coordinated by the Green Triangle Forest Industries Hub, with support from the Victorian Forest Products Association. A feasibility study is currently underway to assess large-scale commercialisation through The Precinct project in Portland, supported by Australian Forest & Wood Innovations (AFWI) and the Victorian Government.
The series demonstrates how ABP’s locally grown plantation timber, regional expertise and advanced manufacturing can help meet Australia’s housing demand while reducing reliance on imported materials. For the team behind GL24, the national spotlight represents more than media exposure it is recognition of years of research, collaboration and belief in the potential of Australian plantation timber to deliver high-performance building solutions for the future.
