ABP celebrates Green Triangle award winners

ABP is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of ABP board member Laurie Hein and forester Georgina Macklin who were recognised at the 2025 Green Triangle Forest Industry Awards. Laurie was honoured as Timber Legend whilst rising star Georgina was finalist in the Trainee of the Year category.

Laurie Hein – Timber Legend

Laurie Hein was honoured for a career spanning more than four decades, from learning the trade in his family’s timber mill to managing plantation operations and leading industry initiatives in the Green Triangle. Laurie has been widely recognised for championing workplace safety, embedding strong on-site practices, and driving workforce development — contributions credited with consolidating the Green Triangle’s reputation as a high-performance plantation region.

Laurie’s leadership extends beyond operational achievements. As a board member of ABP, founding Deputy Chair of the Green Triangle Forest Industries Hub, and member of FIACSA (Forest Industry Advisory Council South Australia), he has guided industry strategy, workforce development, fire management, and policy initiatives.

Laurie was credited for his dedicated mentorship, guiding countless emerging leaders with valued guidance and support.

ABP CEO Russ Hughes praised Laurie’s achievement.

“Laurie’s commitment to the Green Triangle forestry sector is outstanding. His leadership, vision, commitment to safety, innovation, and workforce development have shaped the industry for decades,” Mr Hughes said.

“A generous leader, Laurie is well-recognised for his valued mentorship, inspiring countless industry colleagues with his wisdom and quiet encouragement. He is truly deserving of the Timber Legend recognition – ABP are proud to celebrate his remarkable achievements and ongoing contribution to our sector.”

Georgina Macklin – Trainee of the Year Finalist

ABP is equally proud to recognise Georgina Macklin, whose dedication, initiative, and leadership have set her apart as one of the sector’s most promising young professionals. Georgina’s career journey—starting from Operator and Administrator at Portland Chip Terminal to Harvest Supervisor—exemplifies the opportunities created through ABP’s Career Pathways Program.

Her achievements include:

  • Completing a Certificate IV in Forestry Operations and proactively gaining additional operational experience.
  • Co-organising the Women in Wood Fibre events in 2024 and 2025, connecting over 100 industry professionals and highlighting career pathways for women.
  • Demonstrating safety leadership, operational expertise, and a collaborative approach with contractors and colleagues.

Georgina’s commitment to professional growth, combined with her problem-solving skills and proactive attitude, make her an inspiring example for the next generation of forestry leaders.
